Red light camera installation may get pushed back to spring 2007
Questions remain concerning Dallas-based camera contractor. 30 cameras will eventually be installed throughout the city, plus 27 decoys.
According to a council briefing, city staff would like to see the cameras installed by April 2007, but questions about the Dallas-based camera contractor, Affiliated Computer Services, or ACS, may stall the process.
Although ACS was selected for its experience providing service to large cities like Los Angeles and Houston, a few of ACS’ biggest customers have complained about the company.
In Denver, a computer containing personal information of 1.4 million residents was stolen from an ACS office.
Charges have been filed against ACS in Edmonton, Alberta, claiming that the company bribed police to obtain the city’s contract for providing red-light camera services.
Los Angeles also is unhappy with ACS and is considering breaking their contract with the company.
