Guitarist for Bishop-Stoll, Dave Denham, dies
Some sad news to report about Dave Denham, the guitarist for DFW band Bishop-Stoll, which played a lot around town in the 80s and 90s. Dave lost his battle with cancer on Thanksgiving Day. You may or may not recall, but members of Bishop-Stoll reunited this past August for a charity benefit.
Here is a note from Chuck Flores, an editor and photographer with Buddy magazine and bass player for the band: "Originally from Oklahoma, Denham's experience ranged from acoustic to classical (Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra) to playing in a C&W band for a year and of course, to rock. He won Oklahoma City's Jammy Award as Guitarist of the Year in 1983. His band, Rocker, which eventually migrated to Dallas, was repeatedly tapped to open for Dokken, BTO, the Romeos and B.B. King. With Bishop-Stoll, Denham was able to showcase his fluid style, easily pulling off a passionate performance of Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb' - and doing so well that Jon Butcher and his crew came out of their limos to hear what the opening band was up to. Dave was personable, musically generous, and exhibited a versatility rarely seen these days."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave's bandmates, friends and family.
