New Interview: Hyperion
Andrew Austin and Eric Park stopped in to the TexasGigs offices on Wednesday to give us all a proper introduction to their Denton-based band, Hyperion.
And I quote: "It's already started, but there's a really good metal show tonight."
That's the text message my friend at Andy's Basement Bar and Grill in Denton sent me at about 10:30 p.m. last Friday. Despite having settled into my sweats for the night, I rarely pass up an opportunity to see a rockin' show. So I was metaled up and out the door by 10:45 p.m. It's a good thing that I chose to go, because I got my introduction to a great local band, Hyperion.
Interview with Hyperion
When you go to see a "metal" show there are a lot of things that you may or may not see. You may not actually see metal. You may end up seeing a screamo band that sounds like every other screamo band out there. You may see a bunch of guys standing around, with vacant looks on their faces, clearly not feeling their own songs. You may stand there swearing that you could fall asleep despite the high decibel crap pounding your skull in. I hoped against hope that this would not be what I drove 30 minutes to see. And thank goodness, it certainly was NOT.
Hyperion is simply electric on stage, with solid rockin' songs to boot. They have an old school metal feel that has not been mucked up by some of the more vapid, popular trends in rock and indie music. It was clear at Andy's that they are building a strong following in Denton, as most of the crowd departed immediately following Hyperion's set (which was too bad since the next band was quite good, as well).
Andrew Austin, lead singer and guitarist, and Eric Park, the band's drummer, stopped in to the TexasGigs offices on Wednesday to tell us a little bit more about Hyperion. Some of the topics we covered were:
-How Hyperion got started.
-How they describe their music.
-Coming up in Denton and some of the shows/venues they have played.
-Their upcoming EP, To Capture the Sun, and what to expect from Hyperion in the future.

Try to ignore the conference phone randomly going off in the middle of the interview. My bad.
