The Grammy Award winning Light Crust Doughboys will appear in concert at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre in their Christmas musical presentation, “A Cowboy Christmas,” on December 4. This is the Doughboys’ final concert at the Pocket in 2006, but they will appear regularly in 2007. Reservations are strongly recommended.
This year marks the Doughboys’ 75th anniversary, making them the longest continually performing Western Swing group in America. It has been an eventful year. The Light Crust Doughboys Model ASC Guitars, a 7 instrument commemorative line, has been introduced worldwide; The Light Crust Doughboys Hall of Fame and Museum in Quitman has been in operation for a full year; their music has been launched on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and other music providers for fans worldwide; and to top it all, they were inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
“A Cowboy Christmas” will feature songs appropriate to the Christmas season, as well as selections from the Doughboys’ vast repertoire of Western Swing standards. Featured performers are Maurice Anderson, Dale Cook, Jim Baker, Kevin Bailey, and Art Greenhaw. The Doughboys Brass and Reed Ensemble will also be on hand to provide their big-band sound to the Western Swing.
