More than $500,000 to be given to kids’ charities at Texas Motor Speedway
Texas Motor Speedway and Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter (SCC) will light up the holiday season by giving more than a half-million dollars to area children’s groups as part of its annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Grant Ceremony on Dec. 5 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Texas Boys Choir from Fort Worth will open the ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter will award $501,266 in grants to 164 area children’s charities, with both the grant total and amount of charities being awarded establishing record marks for the chapter. The record amount pushes the 10-year fundraising total by SCC to more than $4 million.
“This is always a special time of the year for Texas Motor Speedway and Speedway Children’s Charities,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “We are able to give more money to more children’s groups than ever before. It is a wonderful testament to the generosity of our race fans and to the heartfelt mission of Speedway Children’s Charities.”
The tree lighting and grant awards ceremony will be held in front of The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway. The giant Douglas Fir, measuring 62 feet tall – the largest live Christmas tree in Texas, will be placed on the circular lawn in front of The Speedway Club. Speedway workers will string more than 10,000 lights and ornaments on the spectacular holiday tree.
