McMillan 8th grader is 10,000th student to enroll in Wylie ISD
McMillan eighth grader Amberly Duenas was honored with a small pirate's chest full of goodies at the November school board meeting for becoming, in October, the 10,000th student to enroll in Wylie ISD.
Amberly received various spirit items including an AHMO hooded sweat shirt, jeweled T-shirt, pirate teddy bear, pink bandanna and mug. The chest was assembled especially for Amberly by the Dee Mullins and Kim Richey, representatives for the Wylie Pirate Athletic Booster Club. Amberly also received an athletic T-shirt and AHMO button from the WISD Athletic Department.
“This is such a milestone in WISD’s history that the board and I believed it needed special recognition,” said Superintendent Dr. John Fuller. “In five short years, WISD has more than doubled its student population, from 5,006 in November 2001 to 10,027 today.”
The Board of Trustees is currently working on a strategic plan that will handle 25,000 students.
