The Wylie ISD introduced new principal assignments for the district at its November board meeting. Scott Winn will be the principal at Rita G. Smith Elementary and Beth Edge will assume leadership of Dr. Al Draper Intermediate. Both schools are scheduled to open August 2007.
Scott Winn, current principal of Dodd Elementary, has been with WISD since 2000. He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees both in Business Administration and Elementary Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, OK and received a Master’s in Elementary Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. Mr. Winn is currently pursuing superintendent certification.
“I have had the privilege to lead at a school named for such wonderful community leaders as the Dodd family,” said Mr. Winn. “It will be an equal honor to open a new elementary named for Mrs. Rita Smith; she is truly a special lady.”
Beth Edge has 12 years of education experience, 11 of them in WISD. Presently, she is the assistant principal of Cox Elementary. Mrs. Edge is a graduate of Wylie High School and of Texas Tech, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She received a Master’s in Educational Administration with Principal Certification from Texas A & M University at Commerce in 2005.
“I feel so honored to be named the campus principal of Dr. Al Draper Intermediate School,” said Mrs. Edge. Growing up in Wylie, I knew Dr. Draper and his family, for many years and it is very rewarding to play a small part in his legacy working with the Wylie students who will pass through the doors of Draper Intermediate during the years to come.”
Effective January 1, 2007, Mike Williams will formally begin his responsibilities as principal of Wylie East High School, the campus scheduled to open in the fall of 2007. Currently, Mr. Williams is the principal at Burnett Junior High. Stepping up to the leadership role at Burnett will be current assistant principal, Kyle Craighead.
