Carlos Santana: Blues At Montreux 2004

July 12, 2004 was a very special night at the Montreux Festival for any blues fan. With Carlos Santana as musical director (and special guest guitarist), three musical legends took to the stage. Each one delivered a full concert set packed with some of the finest blues guitar playing you’ll ever hear. Bobby Parker, Clarence ''Gatemouth'' Brown and Buddy Guy are all headline acts in their own right so it was a real coup to get them on one line-up. Throw in the guest appearances by Carlos Santana and Chic maestro Nile Rodgers and blues heaven is complete!

Diddy: Press Play

No one says it better than Diddy himself - "Press Play is based on all my musical experiences - from the Uptown era, when I was working with Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, and Heavy D to the Biggie, 112, Mase, Total, and No Way Out era. As time evolved, and I started traveling around the world and going into dance and techno clubs, I began to see music from a global point of view. It all came together on Press Play, all those sounds in my head. I've evolved, studied the game, been a part of it, had success. It all comes down to press play. After you press play, it's gonna make or break you in this game." A year in the making, Press Play finds Diddy joined by a who's who of contemporary artists and producers. Among the guest performers are Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Big Boi, Brandi, Keyshia Cole, Nas, Fergie, Avant, and Pharoah Monch.

The album was produced by Greg Lattimer who first came to attention as vocalist with New York's Thin Lizard Dawn in the late '90s. Rough Trade Import * No US Release until 2007!

Sarah Mclachlan: Wintersong

3-time Grammy and 8-time Juno Award-winning multi-platinum McLachlan, who has sold over 30 million records around the world, ushers in the spirit of the season with the release of her first holiday album, Winstersong recorded in her home studio in Vancouver. Sarah McLachlan presents these classic songs on Winstersong with a unique twist, making them her own and translating them into her repertoire. Winstersong could be considered the soundtrack to a blustery winter day. The album opens with her version of John Lennon's timeless declaration of peace from 1971, "Happy Xmas (War is Over)." John and Yoko and the Plastic Ono Band originally recorded the song with the Harlem Community Choir, and Sarah is also joined by a choral group -- a children's choir of students from the music school she personally funds and oversees in her hometown of Vancouver.

Aerosmith: Devil's Got A New Disguise

Here at last is the iconic outfit's single-disc greatest hits compilation. This definitive collection adds all the anthemic early Aerosmith chart-toppers cut for Columbia Records like "Dream On" and "Walk This Way," to the band's gem-hard Geffen Records sides, such as "Love In An Elevator" and "Janie's Got A Gun." Add to this mouth-watering synthesis a pair of newly-recorded Aerosmith tunes, and you've got the answer to every Aerosmith fan's feverish dream.

As I Lay Dying: Shadows Are Security

Badly Drawn Boy: Born In The Uk+2

Damon Gough, the British singer/songwriter known as Badly Drawn Boy, releases his fifth studio album, "Born in the U.K.," via Astralwerks. Working with more than 60 demos, Gough eventually wound up making an album quite different than he'd originally planned. The 13-track "Born in the U.K." offers a much fuller sound than its predecessor, 2004's "One Plus One Equals One." "(That album) was very introverted," he said. "I think this is more accessible, a bit more mainstream. I never use choruses that people could sing along to. But my personal challenge was to make something that could be accepted in a wider fan base."

Blind Melon: Live At The Palace

Blind Melon's Live at the Palace CD reissued with expanded packaging on Capitol/EMI. Recorded in Los Angeles on October 11, 1995, Blind Melon's Live at the Palace CD captured the band at their creative and dynamic peak: the group was touring in support of their second album and had hit its collective stride. It would turn out to be Blind Melon's swan song, as their charismatic frontman Shannon Hoon would only live 10 days longer, felled by drug addiction. Now, the group's surviving members - bassist Brad Smith, guitarists Christopher Thorn and Rogers Stevens and drummer Glen Graham, have updated the CD release with expanded packaging that includes intimate liner notes by Stevens and never-before-seen tour photographs by Danny Clinch. The band rips through 12 original songs, including crowd favorites like "Tones Of Home", "Galaxie", "Change" and the inimitable "No Rain".

Blowoff: Blowoff

After helping define the sound of alternative-rock with Hüsker Dü in the '80s, fronting the power-pop band Sugar in the '90s and fusing hard-rock and heavy electronica in his last solo release, Body of Song, in 2005, Bob Mould is now redefining pop music with Blowoff, his collaboration with producer/remixer extraordinaire Richard Morel. Blowoff, named after the deciding fight in a pro wrestling match, melds together Mould's angry, angular power-pop tendencies with Morel's hazy, house-fueled electronica. Mould and Morel will be taking their famed Blowoff party, held once a month at DC's famed 9:30 Club, on the road in support of this release.

Billy Bragg: Don't Try This At Home

1991's Don't Try This at Home comes complete with Peter Buck, Johnny Marr, Michael Stipe, Kirsty MacColl, and perhaps most shockingly of all, drums! The album also introduced us to one of his best known songs, "Sexuality." As with Volume 1, each release features the re-mastered original and a second disc of bonus material, much of it previously unavailable and handpicked by Billy and longtime Bragg cohorts Grant Showbiz and Wiggy.

Billy Bragg: England Half English

England, Half English was Bragg's 2002 solo follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Wilco-collaboration Mermaid Avenue. It shows his musical adventurism continuing to develop as he and his now-steady backing band The Blokes dabble in neo-ska, gospel soul, and polyrhythmic world beats. As with Volume 1, each release features the re-mastered original and a second disc of bonus material, much of it previously unavailable and handpicked by Billy and longtime Bragg cohorts Grant Showbiz and Wiggy.

Billy Bragg: William Bloke

Bragg's talents at examining interpersonal relationships continued to mature on 1996's William Bloke, an album that, according to All Music Guide, "reminds listeners that the well-missed Bragg is super valuable, even when firing flowers instead of bullets." As with Volume 1, each release features the re-mastered original and a second disc of bonus material, much of it previously unavailable and handpicked by Billy and longtime Bragg cohorts Grant Showbiz and Wiggy.

Billy Bragg: Workers Playtime

Though still a caustic rabble-rouser, Bragg revealed on 1988's Worker's Playtime he was equally adept at discussing the struggles of love as he was at discussing the struggles of the working class. As with Volume 1, each release features the re-mastered original and a second disc of bonus material, much of it previously unavailable and handpicked by Billy and longtime Bragg cohorts Grant Showbiz and Wiggy.

Chiodos: All's Well That Ends Well

This is a re-release deluxe version of All’s Well That Ends Well. It includes a bonus DVD and three acoustic tracks. Recent tours include Warp Tour 2006. Look for an upcoming dates this fall with Atreyu & From First to Last. They have over 16,000 myspace.com friends and their current project has sold over 65,000 units. Chiodos formed in High School just outside of Flint Michigan. The bands style would be defined as a melting pot of various genres of music. Band influences include Saves the Day, Queen, and At the Drive-In. Their recent release has ignited interest from metal heads, punk/rockers and music fans in general.

Clinic: Visitations

Fourth studio album from this brilliant Liverpool Art/Punk quartet who don surgical masks for their publicity photos! Their often brutal cerebral attacks on musical formulas has made them a favorite with the critics and music buyers alike. 12 tracks including the single 'Harvest (Within You)'. Domino Import. * No US release is currently scheduled!

C-Murder: Tru Story-Continued

In 2002, C-Murder was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and sentenced to life in prison for a nightclub shooting that to this day, he maintains he did not commit. This would have deterred just about any other rapper but this didn't stop C-Murder from recording heat behind bars. C wasted no time in setting up a studio in jail and recording everything straight from the penitentiary for his landmark release, The Truest S*** I Ever Said which received an incredible amount of attention upon its release. This new project is the next step for the rapper as his case awaits to be heard by the Supreme Court. The Tru Story... Continued is your chance to hear yet more raw and uncut heat from the rapper... from behind bars! This deluxe digipak includes all-new bonus cuts plus a you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it limited edition DVD filled with over an hour of footage & exclusive videos.

Cradle Of Filth: Thornography

Thornography, the band's seventh full-length studio album and their second for Roadrunner, comes on the heels of 2004's widely acclaimed and Grammy-nominated meisterwerk Nymphetamine. Thornography is a scintillating and terrifying collision between the familiar and the unexpected. It's the dark, destructive and unsettling sound of a globe-conquering heavy metal band at the height of their sick, twisted powers, and the continuation of a proud, priapic and unhinged legacy that stretches back nigh on 15 years. It features the Louder, harder, faster, heavier, darker, catchier - the unstoppable force that is Cradle Of Filth slithers menacingly forward, crushing the opposition and striking warped, blackened glee into the hearts of misanthropes and malevolents the world over. The nightmare continues may we never wake up!

Glenn Danzig: Black Aria II

Glenn Danzig's long-awaited Black Aria II CD, the follow-up to the original Black Aria (1993). The album, the material for which has apparently been written for five years, is a classical, operatic piece based on Lilith, the mythological first wife of Adam, according to Danzig. "It's different from the first record but similar in a lot of ways," he said.

Tanya Donelly: This Hungry Life

This Hungry Life is the newest addition to Tanya Donelly’s dizzying rock resume. After forming the influential art-rock outfit Throwing Muses while in her teens, Donelly later founded The Breeders with ex-Pixie Kim Deal before leading her own hugely successful group, Belly. Now, after three acclaimed solo albums, Donelly delivers a set of languid and gorgeous pop creations. Accompanied by a stellar band, Donelly has amassed yet another collection of powerful and beautiful gems, proving once again why we've all paid attention for so long.

Jeremy Enigk: World Waits

World Waits is in a completely different territory than anything Sunny Day Real Estate ever recorded. It consists of mostly slower songs featuring vocals softer than one would expect of Mr. Enigk. He plays guitar (acoustic) on most tracks and uses an assortment of backing rhythm section. The production is quite stellar, with his voice always taking center stage. The occasional organ/piano flourishes blend well with the rest of the music. Highlights include the second track 'Been Here Before' and the second last track 'Dare A Smile', which is a bit more somber than the other tracks.

Vince Gill: These Days

In an unmatched outpouring of virtuosity and energy, Vince Gill has created a 4-CD set of 43 new and original songs under the title These Days. The collection is an artistic tour de force that displays Gill’s mastery of lyrics and musical styles, ranging from traditional country and bluegrass to jazz and rock. To accompany him on this ambitious undertaking, Gill turned both to artists he knew and had worked with before and to those whose music he admired at a distance. By the time the project was completed, that group included Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall, Rodney Crowell, Phil Everly, the Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, John Anderson, Lee Ann Womack, Jenny Gill, Amy Grant, LeAnn Rimes, Gretchen Wilson, Guy Clark, Trisha Yearwood, Bekka Bramlett, Michael McDonald, steel-guitar master Buddy Emmons and many other musical standouts.

Goldfrapp: We Are Glitter

US only release! We Are Glitter is a collection of the best remixes of tracks from Goldfrapp's critically acclaimed Supernature. Adventurous and risk-taking, We Are Glitter celebrates and re-imagines Goldfrapp and Supernature with each track selected by the band. The album features work from white-hot remixers The Flaming Lips, DFA, C2 (aka Carl Craig), Benny Benassi, Ewan Pearson, François K, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke and many more, most of which have not been previously available commercially. We Are Glitter highlights include alluring remixes of such songs as "Number 1" and "Ooh La La," both of which hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart. We Are Glitter also contains the special bonus track "Strict Machine (We Are Glitter mix)," a song from their second studio album Black Cherry, remixed by Goldfrapp themselves.

Gomez: Five Men In A Hut (A's, B's and Rarities: 1998-2004)

UK band Gomez are set to release the new compilation Five Men In A Hut (A's, B's and Rarities: 1998-2004). Through the '90s and into the millennium Gomez released a total of 5 studio albums, all of which received widespread critical acclaim - with debut Bring It On picking up the Mercury Music Prize for Album Of The Year in '98 - and with releases such as Liquid Skin selling over a quarter of a million in just 3 months. Now 10 years on, the finest of their audio and visual offerings have been brought together for the first time on Double CD. From their very first single '78 Stone Wobble' and including career highlights such as 'Whipping Piccadilly', 'Rhythm & Blues Alibi' and 'Get Myself Arrested', the album chronicles their creative history via a band-picked selection of A-Sides, B-Sides and two previously unreleased tracks "Old China" and "Diskoloadout".

A MUST have for any George Jones and country music fan.

Kid Koala: Your Mom's Favorite DJ

Eric San aka Kid Koala is a one-of-a-kind sort of turntablist. There’s the fact that he’s an illustrator, graphic artist, film maker, puppet master and musician. There’s the fact that he always wear shorts. Then there’s the fact that he sees his chosen means of expression not as a way of showing that he can do faster crabs than anyone else, but as a way of telling stories.

L.E.O.: Alpacas Orgling

L.E.O. is a power pop collective. A recording project that began as an homage to the idiosyncratic genius of Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra, and has become a Traveling Wilburys-esque creative outlet for a gang of like-minded musicians/producers. It was originally conceived by Bleu and includes the diverse talents of Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish), Mike Viola (The Candy Butchers), Jason Scheff (Chicago), Steve Gorman (The Black Crowes), Matt Mahaffey (Self), John Fields (big-time pop producer), Tony Goddess (pApAs fritAs), Hanson, Eric Barao (The Cautions), Scott Simons (The Argument), Paula Kelley and more.

Love: Definitive Rock

Love emerged out of Los Angeles’ culture-shifting mid-’60s music scene, and their pioneering, psychedelic folk-rock sound proved profoundly influential. One of the first integrated acts in pop music the visionary Arthur Lee’s brainchild was also the first rock band signed to Elektra. This 2 CD collection includes the Billboard® Top 40 smash 'Seven And Seven Is,' the hits 'Alone Again Or,' 'My Little Red Book,' 'She Comes In Colors,' and many more classics

Maria McKee: Live Acoustic Tour 2006

For Acoustic Tour 2006, Maria McKee decided to mix it up and go it alone; together with old friend & colleague Susan Otten in tow, she embarked upon an acoustic tour of Western Europe and a few select cities in the U.S, devising a set list between them including the best of 'Lone Justice' and Maria's solo work as well as some choice covers.

Me First And The Gimme Gimmes: Love Their Country

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, the cover band who have single handedly revitalized the careers of many long forgotten artists, are back with their 6th full length entitled Love Their Country. If their stylistic focus this time around isn’t completely clear from the album title or the cover photo, then let me spell it our for you, C-O-U-N-T-R-Y (as in music). The Gimmes are set to breathe new life into this almost forgotten genre! With a curtsy and a tip of the old ten-gallon hat Me First tear through 13 of country music’s most famous tunes. Songs by the likes of the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, and Kenny Rogers just to name a few. A supergroup of sorts, bringing together members from NOFX, Lagwagon, The Swingin’ Utters, and the Foo Fighters, it’s no wonder that Me First and the Gimme Gimmes pull off a country record flawlessly.

New York Noise: Vol. 3

Third installment in Soul Jazz Records' journey into the underground music of New York City in the 1980s, this time focusing on the Electronic Dance/Post-Punk mutations and Proto-Electro music that originally came out on mainly small D.I.Y. labels. Today, the new wave of New York Art/Rock groups such as DFA, The Strokes, the Rapture, Juan McLean, James Murphy, The Liars and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs all have their roots in this early 1980s New York Noise music scene. This album features text, original photos and interviews documenting this amazing period. New York Noise Vol. Three is compiled and annotated by Stuart Algabright, an important participant in the New York music scene during this period and features music from Implog, Suicide, Snatch, James Blood Ulmer, Dominatrix and many more.

Primus: They Can't All Be Zinbers: Best Of

Primus, with legendary bassist Les Claypool, avant-garde guitarist Larry ''Ler'' Lalonde and Tim ''Herb'' Alexander's skillful beat-dow on the skins, have crafted over the years a truly spectacular catalog, consisting of seven abums, four EPs, two VHS home videos and two DVD collections, but no retrospective CD collection. They Can't All Be Zingers finally settles that vital missing element to any band's arsenal with a 16 track compilation covering fan favorites and singles including ''Tommy The Cat,'' ''Jerry The Race Car Driver,'' ''My Name is Mud'' and the previously unreleased and extended version of "Shake Hands With Beef". Covering the band's legacy form their first official studio album Frizzle Fry to the 2003 EP included in the DVD Animals Should Not Try To Act Like Pleople, this collection of the best Primus songs is also the first time that band's music has been digitally remastered.

Sadies: Tales Of The Ratfink

At last, The Sadies have taken their psychedelic hot-rod-soundtrack stylings and created... a psychedelic soundtrack for a hot rod movie! Tales of the Rat Fink by Ron Mann, the award-winning director of Comic Book Confidential and Grass, chronicles the wild life of Renaissance man Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, who engineered a shift in mid-twentieth century culture with his customized cars, "monster" T-shirts and America's alternative rodent - Rat Fink. Mann's largely animated documentary features the voice talents of John Goodman, Ann-Margret, Jay Leno, Brian Wilson, Tom Wolfe, Matt Groening, Robert Williams, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Paul Le Mat, Billy Gibbons, and The Smothers Brothers.

"We certainly had our work cut out" said Dave "trying to follow the success of the first two. Phil K and Luke Chable both did amazing jobs and both CD's ended up in the top 20 compilations of the year in DJ Magazine. But this time it's an all U.K. affair and I think we showed the Aussies we were up to it. I know we're happy with it and I hope you will be too."

Shiny Toy Guns: We Are Pilots

Onward with the 90's revival! We've got The Lemonheads making a new record, bands gazing at their shoes and the newest lump to add on to the blazing "We 3 the '90's" fire?: Shiny Toy Guns. But don't think these kids are all up in their flannel. STG are taking their cues from the best in electroclash and eurodisco to fashion a unique, stylish blast of pop, indie, electro and a touch of svelt-techno. Comprised of Carah Faye (vocals), Chad Petree (vocal, guitar), Jeremy Dawson (bass guitar) and Mikey Martin (drums); the band have already made a massive impact on MySpace and continue to be taking the world by storm with their explosive live show and bombastic dance-party vibe.

Slits: Revenge Of The Killer Slits

The Slits are one of the last remaining bands from the inner circle of Punk, but their meaning and relevance transcends even that narrow classification. They became the forerunners of a unique Dub/Punk fusion and remain one of the most influential bands in the world. After a 25 year sabbatical the Slits are back! The core of Ari & Tessa have joined forces once again, drafting in Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and legendary guitar hero Marco Pirroni (Adam & The Ants, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Sinead O' Connor) to create the Revenge Of The Killer Slits EP. Dwight Yoakam: Guitars Cadillacs Etc. Etc.

Dwight Yoakam's debut brought the high-kicking spirit of Buck Owens's Bakersfield country back to the radio and rescued it from urban cowboy blandness. Along with Steve Earle's Guitar Town, Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc. is a cornerstone of what became the '90s alternative country movement. Yoakam remains a vital recording artist, and this is the first and best place to get familiar with him. Produced by Pete Anderson, Yoakam's 1986 Reprise debut is a sinewy mix of traditional honky-tonk, red-hot Bakersfield twang, and rock 'n' roll attitude; and it spawned a trio of hits, including "It Won't Hurt," the title track, and a cover of Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man." A second disc captures Dwight and the Babylonian Cowboys delivering an incendiary and previously unreleased 1986 performance recorded at the Roxy Theater on L.A.'s Sunset Strip.

Blair Lovern, says:

Passing along a very mini review of Ghoultown from Jon Keener of the CD World Addison store, when the band played there on 10/14:

"It's easy to scoff at what we don't understand. The imagery of this band may tend to frighten some (initially me!). These guys were excellent.

"Upon hearing their new album on Zoviet Records I was worried that this would not translate to an acoustic format. That fear proved groundless. These guys were great musicans and the whole cowpunk/rockabilly format worked wonderfully. Images of living dead, coupled with tales of desperados and shootouts had a packed house calling for more. A truly enjoyable time was had by all. Thank you GHOULTOWN fo a great afternoon."
