Concert Review: 2006 Conspiracy Radio Music Awards

2

It was a night to remember, August 25, 2006 at the Legendary Gypsy Tea Room in the heart of downtown Dallas. For the 3rd year in a row, JJ, founder of conspiracy radio has kept the legacy of the awards show growing strong. The listeners not only nominated each person for each category, but they ultimately decided who took home the awards voting daily until the assigned deadline. The categories ranged from Best MC; to Best new artist ; to Best Radio Show ect. Conspiracy Radio is one of the only radio shows I know that has put together an event to praise local talent and there cities own movers and shakers.

And the winners are...

The night started off with the red carpet entrance hosted by the “The Run Ya Mouth Series” with Rakoo and Lil Phill of Rakoo Nation. All artist(s) got interviewed by the two gentlemen and the footage taken will be used for a new show put together solely based on the awards show and the topic for the specific show. Which is a great opportunity for artist(s) interviewed, because the show is broadcasted on the internet world wide with thousands viewers . During the red carpet interviews, they spoke to each individual on not only their thoughts, on the big night, but also issues going on in today’s everyday society.

After getting interviewed the artist(s) could step into the club were Mama SoSo was hooking it up with some deep southern eats. She had just to name a few of the things served dressing, mac and cheese, green beans and chicken and gravy. Not to forget the desert, her famous sweet potato mini pies and 4 other flavors. This was a good opportunity for the guests to mingle with the nominees and nominees to network with other guests.

The crowd was getting down all night with Dj Spinn on the 1’s and 2’s and hosted by the infamous Chucky Sly. Not only was there some stars winning awards, but there were some stars presenting and performing blazing up the stage all night. Performances by Wap, Dow Jonez and Knesesary, Al Lyric and Voice Rock, Free Agents, Headkrack and the Boondox, Money Waters, Sly and Tahiti, Dallas SWAT and D.D.C. Although, I was a little disappointed I didn’t get to see one of my favorite groups Ra’koo Nation. Apparently the awards segment went a little longer than expected and there just wasn’t enough time for them to go up and do there set. The group took it well and supported D.D.C by getting on stage with them to finish off the night all smiles and love doing exactly what they do best “Walking As One”. Dirty Dialect Click with there southern swaggers closed the night off with a banging performance with songs off “The Barber shop 1 and 2” mix tapes and Classick’s classic “Move Round”. Another song that had the people moving was “Rock” off of Dawg Wonders upcoming album “The Dawg Show” who also was nominated and took home the award for Best New Artist. . Money Waters and company did one of my personal favorites “Gotta Gar” off of his “SWALHAGGIN” album the crowd couldn’t help but sing along. Money has such a great connection with his audience when he gets on stage. Headcrack and The Boondox spoke truth with the controversial track “F***abush” which by the looks of the crowd many agreed on that one! Tahiti and Sly put on a show that I can only describe as delightful. The duo did a track called "The Don" a reggae joint everybody seems to enjoy. Tahiti did one of my personal favorites “The Birth of Whack” he brings so much enthusiasm to the stage you can not help but vibe to him. I can not forget to give it up to Wap. The show started with Wap and his vibrant style although there wasn’t much of a crowd at the beginning of his set he gave them no choice but to crowd the stage as he provoked the audience to bounce especially with his track “Daswassup”. In the middle of the performances the awards were given out so it made for a very energetic feel throughout the entire evening.

Next year there will be a whole new ballot some may hold there titles and some may lose there’s but it is def up to the people, so pass the word on and keep the legacy going strong. Dallas definitely does have next with the love I saw in the building on the 25th. So in the words of Cho, owner of DFWHipHop.com, “If you aint on the grind then get on the ground!”
