AFI Dallas closes film fest on Sunday with awards ceremony at W Hotel

— The DMN's Stephen Becker reports on Over the Top that two films with Texas ties won the top prizes from the AFI Dallas International Film Festival on Sunday:

  • Shut Up and Shoot Me, a comedy produced by Arlington native Jefe Brown, won the Target Filmmaker Award for best narrative feature
  • New Year Baby by Socheata Poeuv, formerly of Carrollton, won the Target Filmmaker Award for best documentary

Each won $25,000. Other awards were given for best feature shot in HD; Audience Awards; Texas Competition; Animation; Shorts; and Student films.
