Richardson ISD teams excel at State Academic Decathlon competition
Three of RISD's four high schools recently had teams advance to the state-level Academic Decathlon competitions.
Teams from Berkner and Richardson high schools competed at the 5A competition in Katy, Texas, and the Pearce High School team competed in San Antonio at the 4A meet.
All teams experienced group and individual success, with Pearce earning the overall 4A Bronze Medal.
Berkner H.S. won Bronze in the Super Quiz Relay and overall Super Quiz. Team members included Kat Chase, Mat Debic, Farha Habeeb, Souphia Ieng, Tammy Lee, Jimmy McCarthy, Lawrence Pham, Danny Rodriguez and Albert Young. They were coached by Tanya Gregson and Dean Webb.
Richardson H.S. team members included Rachel Burger, T.J. Daniel, Micah Diamond, James Glenn, Glenn Kasper, Isabelle Jargowsky, Jesse Owen, Afsheen Saatsaz and Grace Yuan. Their coaches were Lucio Benedetto and Ricardo Romanillos.
In addition to earning the overall team Bronze, the Pearce H.S. team won gold in the Super Quiz Relay and bronze in the Super Quiz.
PHS team members included Ian Campbell, Meredith Corley, James Isaac, Ellie Janco, Tai Krause, Elsa Lee, Michael Mohkamkar, Lauren Morzak and Parker Staats. They were coached by Carol Whatley and Carol Hewitt.
