Greyhound charity dinner will star big-name local athletes
The jocks like the greyhounds. Who knew?
The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc. (GALT) sure does have some kind of powerful mojo. Its 6th annual "Greyt" Athletes Dinner and Auction on Saturday April 28 at Dallas steakhouse III Forks will draw a star-studded lineup of local athletes that include Cowboys QB Tony Roma, Harlem Globetrotter Marques Haynes, ex-Dallas Star Craig Ludwig, ex-Cowboy Ryan Young, Cowboys Sam Hurd and Miles Austin, and John Rhadigan of FOX Sports Net.
"We are so excited about partnering with III Forks for this wonderful event," says event chairman Debi Joynt. "This time each year GALT takes 120 to 140 Greyhounds from the Valley Race Park in Harlingen, where GALT is the sole retirement outfit for this seasonal racetrack. Proceeds from this event will ensure they have the care they need until they are placed in homes."
The event costs $100 per person and includes a 3-course meal with choice of chateaubriand or salmon. All entrees come with creamed corn, sugarsnap peas, whipped or roasted potatoes, III Forks salad, and choice of Texas pecan cake or chocolate mousse. Wine and beer are included; a cash bar is also available.
The Greyhound Adoption League is the official charity of the Dallas Stars Hockey Team. GALT is a 501 © (3) non-profit all-volunteer group dedicated to placing all greyhounds, primarily those that competed and trained for racing, into loving homes.
GALT facilitates the adoption of greyhounds by providing kennel services and foster homes along with their medical needs, including spay and neuter, assisting them in the transition from track-life to home-life; and educating the public about why the greyhound has been a favored companion dog for more than 4,000 years.
III Forks is located at 17776 Dallas Parkway; the reception begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets for the "Greyt" Athletes Dinner and Auction, please see www.galtx.org or call 972.503.GALT.
