Wal-Mart increases its share of Dallas supermarket scene
DALLAS DMN business writer Maria Halkias, who has been reporting on the supermarket industry for years, has a story about the battle for market share among grocery stores in Dallas. Since 2004, Wal-Mart has gone from owning one quarter of the supermarket world up to a third, followed by Kroger, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Minyard, and SuperTarget. The story has a nice pie chart, which makes an excellent graphic image for a story about supermarkets. But if they were going to do it right, they probably should have made it an actual pie, with slices that they serve to subscribers.
