Post-Easter question: Where do all those Easter bunnies go?

Where all the bunnies REALLY go

Barbara Yule of Garland started the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary 14 years ago, and has been rescuing rabbits ever since. Easter is her busiest time of the year, reports the Dallas Morning News, because people buy rabbits for their children as Easter presents, then get rid of them once the novelty wears off and the responsibility of owning a pet kicks in. Luckily the rabbits have Yule to hop to in their time of abandonment and crises. The main lesson here: do NOT buy your child a baby bunny for the Easter basket unless you've thought whether your child is ready to tackle the responsibility of a pet, or unless you're willing to take care of it. If you do buy your child a baby bunny for Easter and they in fact don't take care of it, give Barbara a call so she can find it a good home.

The last line of this post is not accurate. NTRS cannot take in unwanted rabbits and they have plenty of their own rabbits that they're trying to place. If you bought your child a rabbit for Easter and they cannot take care of it then the best thing for the rabbit would be for you to step up and take responsibility for that rabbit's life.
