Stripling middle school teacher wins award, gets Mavs shout-out
John Conard has taught art at Stripling Middle School for 34 years. In that time, he’s made a long lasting “artistic impression” on hundreds of students, inspiring and nurturing their creative talents. In fact, some of his students submitted winning entries in this year’s Safe City Fort Worth art contest.
Recently 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Stripling participated in the Mavs and UPS Store Teacher Recognition Program. Students nominate deserving teachers by submitting a 150-word essay about why the teacher deserves recognition. The stories of Mr. Conard’s dedication won over the judges.
“He had no idea that he was even nominated. Ms. (Terry) Mossige, the principal, announced it over the PA. Students came out of their classes to applaud and shake his hand. It was a very moving experience,” said Stripling Middle Campus Communicator Mary Wichman.
Mr. Conard is one of only ten teachers who was recognized at Saturday night’s Mavericks game. More than 3,000 nominations from students throughout the DFW area were submitted.
