Dallas’ Pappas Bros. Steakhouse is selling insanely expensive cognac

Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, probably the best steakhouse in Dallas, is now serving a just-released cognac that costs -- you sitting down? -- $595 per ounce.

Called Louis XIII Black Pearl, the cognac was released in March from the Rémy Martin private family reserve.

So how do you get to charge so much for cognac?

 • Only 786 decanters were drawn from a single 100-year-old tierçon, which, as any idiot knows, is an oak barrel used for aging brandy
 • Only 100 of those decanters made it to the United States
 • Pappas Bros. Steakhouse has the only bottle in Dallas
 • Black Pearl contains the finest eaux de vie (which Wiki says is "a French term for a colorless brandy"), some even more than 100 years old
 • Fancy package: a one-of-a-kind hand-blown "black crystal Baccarat decanter, finished with platinum fleur-de-lis designs"

A serving of cognac at Pappas Bros. usually contains a minimum of one ounce, though you're certainly welcome to order a double. So come on, pony up for a glass of Louis XIII Black Pearl, quit being such a tightwad with those bills in your pocket, what are you going to do, take it with you to the grave?

Oh, man. Back when I was waiting tables in Miami I once had to carry 10 shots of Louis XIII down a flight of stairs to a bunch of businessmen paying with a corporate card (nice job). Anyway, the best part was when my manager carefully placed the empty bottle in what I think was it's mahogany box and presented it to the table as if they had just discovered a cure for cancer.

PS - I love my job.

OK, so multiply 10 shots of Louis XIII by - what, $300 a shot? $350? that's, let's see, 10 X 350 = um, $3500! and you had to carry that down the stairs? wild. they always make a big deal about the bottles on this stuff. just like perfume.

When I'm sick, I like to mix a couple of ounces of Louis Black with Pepsi -- or sometimes Tang -- and take a nap.

If you enjoy hot wings with cognac, the cognac may potentiate the heat of the wing, adding unknown dimensions.

Seriously, though, the best place to drink this kind of thing has to be here:

rather than here:

The bottles go for a couple hundred as well, or more if they have those 4 carats in them or not.

If any person in history was going to have a cognac named after him it would have to be this guy

I'd love to see the look on everyone's face if Chris spilled those shots.
