Youngblood named as new coach for Carroll high school

Carroll ISD School Board Trustees have named Jon Youngblood as the next varsity boys’ basketball coach for the Carroll Dragons. The unanimous decision was made during Monday evening’s School Board meeting at Johnson Elementary School. Youngblood replaces Chauncey Willingham who served as the interim head coach during the 2006-2007 season.

School officials say Youngblood was chosen by a seven-member interview committee from among more than 100 applicants for the Carroll position. Since 2001, he has been the varsity coach at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton Farmer’s Branch where he led his team to the 5A Regional Quarterfinals, tying a school record with 27 wins and only eight losses.

Youngblood will earn $66,732 in his new role leading the Dragons. He has 20 years experience in education, teaching physical education and secondary health. His career includes experience as a classroom teacher, an assistant principal, athletic administrative assistant, assistant coach and as a varsity coach for basketball, golf, baseball and football (defensive coordinator).

“Jon is one of the most highly respected basketball coaches in the Metroplex,” said Athletic Director Ronnie Tipps. “He has an outstanding background in developing winning programs, and we look forward to him taking the Carroll boys’ basketball program to the next level.”
