Ask Dallas mayoral candidate Sam Coats a question

5

Dallas mayoral candidate Sam Coats is stopping by for a sit down election interview on Friday afternoon. As we often do here at Pegasus News, we'd like to give you a couple days to think of any questions that you'd like Max to answer while we have him on the hot seat. Feel free to use the comments below to send in your questions, or you can e-mail them to me directly.

I'm curious how Mr. Coates plans on having a good working relationship with our City Council after his ad blasting them and painting himself as an outsider who needs to come into the Council Chambers and clean house?

Bill Holston says:

Actually, I'm very interested in voting for Mr. Coats. I'd like to know his answer to this question:

TXI is currently campaigning against a clean air bill the city supports - How do you reconcile being a member of the board of a major polluter, a company which is lobbying against the city at the same time you are running for Mayor? You have said I believe that you can work better from inside the organization. How can we be certain that you are really having an influence as you suggest?

Second, the readers of this blog are local music fans, interested in Deep Ellum. Do you have any interest in supporting the struggling music venues in Deep Elllum and keeping it safe?

I would like to know his stance on the smoking ban. Add it to bars? Take it away? Leave it alone? Please tell us.

Michael Davis says:

  1. Regarding the TXI deal...please explain how it's tough being the lone voice of dissent but yet staying on the board to fight for change. (Being on City Hall boards, I feel your pain.)

  2. How will you avoid the mistakes of our current Mayor, in terms of working with lower-income communities and understanding the plight of these areas?

Three Questions:

1) As a current TXI board member, can you point to one thing you are doing, have done, or tried to do, to stop TXI's practice of burning hazardous waste in its 50 year-old cement kilns in Midlothian?

2) Do you support TXI's lobbying against SB1177, state legislation supported by the City of Dallas that would provide for testing of new pollution controls in Midlothian cement plants?

3) Do you support TXI's lobbying against a proposed new City of Dallas policy to buy cement for city projects from the least polluting cement plants?
