Texas Wesleyan’s mens golf takes third in OCU Classic
In their final tune-up before the Red River Athletic Conference and NAIA Region VI tournaments, the 11th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team took a third place finish at the Oklahoma City Spring Invitational at Quail Creek Golf Course.
Oklahoma City University ran away with the win after posting a final round 286 and an overall score of 870. The Stars’ Daniel Mitchell fired a second round 67 and a final round of 65 to take the individual title at 203.
Texas Wesleyan finished in third place at 905. Mitch Hendon who finished sixth at 224, while Kevin Doskocil tied for seventh at 226 led the Rams. Ryan Stephens (11th, 228) and Dan Hahn (T13th, 231) gave the Rams four golfers in the top 15. Justin Smith rounded out Texas Wesleyan’s card at 237 (22nd).
The tournament marked the regular season finale for the 11th ranked Rams. Up next is the Red River Athletic Conference and NAIA Region VI tournaments which will be held concurrently at Rose Creek Golf Course April 16-17.
That tournament will feature five team’s ranked in the NAIA’s top-11: #1 Oklahoma Christian, #2 Oklahoma City, #3 Wayland Baptist, #10 Northwood, and #11 Texas Wesleyan. College of the Southwest, which fell out of the top-25 this week after being ranked 25th in the previous poll.
