Texas Wesleyan strong on day one of Region VI golf tourney
In a power packed Region VI men’s golf tournament, the Texas Wesleyan University Rams sit in third place after two rounds. Second ranked Oklahoma City leads the field, while the Rams trail top ranked Oklahoma Christian by just four shots.
The 13-team field features five team’s ranked in the NAIA’s top-11: #1 Oklahoma Christian, #2 Oklahoma City, #3 Wayland Baptist, #10 Northwood, and #11 Texas Wesleyan.
Oklahoma City shot 278 in each of the first two rounds to lead the field at 556 overall. Oklahoma Christian is in second at 583 while the Rams are lurking four shots back at 587.
Oklahoma City’s Daniel Mitchell leads the field after shooting the two low rounds of the tournament at 68 and 67.
Texas Wesleyan’s Dan Hahn is tied for 5th at 142, while Ryan Stephens is in 8th at 144. Kevin Doskocil also cracked the top-10. Doskocil is tied for 9th at 145. Mitch Hendon and Will Woodring both shot 157 and are tied for 43rd.
The Rams are also vying for a fourth consecutive Red River Athletic Conference. The RRAC and Region VI tournaments are being held concurrently. The Rams lead second place Northwood by 13 strokes.
