DA Craig Watson gets approval for post-conviction review team
In total, Watkins will get $358,876 to hire three people whose sole job will be to look at DNA evidence that could cause questionable convictions from the past to be overturned.
The Dallas County Commissioners voted 3-2 yesterday to approve funding to allow Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins to hire a post-conviction review team. In total, Watkins will get $358,876 to hire three people whose sole job will be to look at DNA evidence that could cause questionable convictions from the past to be overturned. Critics of the review team feel that it is not the place of a DA to play defense attorney. However, supporters of Watkins' quest to exonerate past mistakes by his office feel that these kinds of steps can greatly increase the integrity of the whole criminal justice system.
