Cafe Brazil brings breakfast to Addison

ADDISON — Cafe Brazil, the small, Austin-like chain of restaurants known for its crowd-pleasing breakfast-all-the-time policy and its 24-7 hours on weekends, is about to open its latest branch, its ninth, in Addison, at the corner of Belt Line and Quorum.

"We're looking to grow faster," says spokesman Kevin Pultz.

This branch follows the recent opening of the outlet on Greenville Avenue; the chain is exploring other locations, as well.

The Addison branch is going into the space across from Go Fish that was once home to the dearly departed Gilbert's Deli, one of the best delis in Dallas. Gilbert's had only been in that space for a couple years (after many years at Preston and Forest in North Dallas), and closed for good in 2004, attributing the bad business to post-9/11 fallout.

Gilbert's was followed by Monica's, which opened its second branch there in 2005, only to close within a year. Others might view the location as doomed. But the Cafe Brazil folks aren't worried.

"We’ve thrived in areas where other people haven't," Pultz says, "and like our branch in McKinney, this one will be different than what we’ve done in the past."

If there's any question about whether the neighborhood would welcome another breakfast spot, you need only look at Benedict's, just a few blocks away, which gets swarmed with morning crowds, especially on weekends.
