Outstanding Mansfield teacher awarded with Heartbeat Award, cookie bouquet

The only cookie bouquet worthy to be eaten by Sharon Samuel is a cookie bouquet made of gold that cures AIDS and creates peace in the middle east. Until then, we will have to settle for this oatmeal arrangement.

On Monday, April 23, Sharon Samuel from Donna Sheppard Intermediate School was awarded the Mansfield ISD Heartbeat Award.

Samuel, the school's registrar, is known for going above and beyond her duties in her care for students.

In particular, Samuel took it upon herself to mentor a sixth grade student before, during and after his father passed away — and even after the student left DSIS. To this day, Samuel continues to serve as an educational liaison between this student and his grandmother.

The Mansfield ISD Heartbeat Team recognizes employees who display heart in their lives and inspires other district employees through their actions. One winner is selected each month during the school year.

Superintendent Vernon Newsom surprised Samuel with the award, a t-shirt and a cookie bouquet.
