Texas Rangers do not support minor league stadium in Grand Prairie
Texas Rangers president Jeff Cogen wrote a letter to the Grand Prairie City Council and mayor to make clear that the Rangers would not be supportive of building the proposed $15 million minor league ballpark in Grand Prairie. Cogen went as far as to say that a minor league stadium in Grand Prairie would be counterproductive to the Rangers. I can see where he is coming from too - it would potentially be really bad for the Rangers if we had a local team around here with a winning record.

Shawn Williams says:
The Rangers should worry about the new ballpark in Grand Prairie. When I lived in G.P. I went to about 10 Rangers games, 2 Ft. Worth Cats games, and 1 Frisco game per year. Had their been a team in GP, I would have sacrificed a few Ranger games to see the minor league club.
Mr. Gogen talks about $5 tickets in his letter ($6 was the cheapest I saw on the website) to see the Rangers. But that $5 doesn't buy you a seat any where near the action.
At a minor league park, you can actually get near the field for 5 or 6 bucks. I remember when you could get a bleacher seat at the Ballpark for $4. The price those seats have quadrupled but my salary hasn't.
I think the GP stadium will make more of a dent in the Rangers attendance than Frisco has. But with Frisco, Ft. Worth and GP competing, the Rangers need to worry about getting a winning team on the field. I wish they had built the stadium in Dallas, but oh well.
