Whenever summer starts creeping up, Shakespeare starts getting produced more and more, particularly since it is the time when Shakespeare festivals thrive. The Taming of the Shrew just opened at Dallas Theater Center and now the University of Dallas is presenting As You Like It. Seems like the Shakespearean comedies fit the spring mood.
As You Like It is a Shakesperean romantic comedy that contains all the necessary elements: cross-dressing, lovers, the foolish sidekick, weddings, city vs. country, and family disputes. This is the show that contains the famous "All the world's a stage" monologue. The production is directed by notable local actor, Dan Forsythe, who is also a professor at UD. If you need to prepare before hearing the Shakespearean language, I found a quick, easy-to-read synopsis.
The show runs from April 25-May 5 and tickets are a maximum of $5. Call 972-721-5314 for reservations.
Found a clip of a nine-year-old reciting the famous monologue, in case you needed to refresh your memory. The little girl in the front has fallen in love:
