Byron Nelson carries on without namesake or Tiger
IRVING The EDS Byron Nelson Championship proceeded on Thursday without the regular presence on the 18th hole of founder Byron Nelson, who passed away in September 2006.
Golf's most famous player Tiger Woods opted not to come to the annual Four Seasons event. Sean O'Hair won the first round, with 5 under par at 65. Defending champion Brett Wetterich and Anders Hansen both shot 66; Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh shot 69.
But the field was pretty level: 37 players shot in the 60's and 20 are within three shots.
