DeSoto ISD congratulates Eagle Eye newspaper award winners
The DISD sends congratulations to the following DeSoto High School (DHS) Eagle Eye staffers for receiving awards in The Dallas Morning News journalism contest on April 10.
- Patrick Ramos placed first in Feature Photos,
- Chantel Martin placed first in Headline Writing,
- Amanda Mauldin placed first in Graphics Portfolio,
- and the winning team of Jessica Schoenfeld, Chantel Martin, Laura Oliver, and Jonah Hill won first for Best Project.
Sabrina Fulton received an honorable mention for Best Sports Photos; and in the overall competition DHS students received nine other honorable mentions. DHS had a total of fourteen finalists.
You might remember hearing about the Eagle Eye paper in 2005, when some intrepid kids took it upon themselves to investigate DeSoto ISD's choice to hire a "gang consultant" for a non-existent gang problem.
And in other news, the DMN has no plans to return its own recent journalism awards, despite evidence the contest was rigged.

David Goodspeed says:
Dive a little deeper into the winners list and you will see that Midlothian HS was a finalist in best school newspaper. The instructor that left DeSoto right after the brouhaha from the gang consultant story is now instructor at MHS. Congrats Ritchie!
