DMN endorses Tom Leppert for Dallas Mayor; Sam Coats gets close second
The DMN has now officially recommended Tom Leppert for Dallas Mayor. However, the DMN article also indicated that the editorial staff believed that Sam Coats was the other candidate that they believed could effectively lead this city. No other candidates were even mentioned in the endorsement column.

Historically, the DMN endorsement has been the kiss of death. It has already bit their pick in District 7, who was disqualified from running the SAME DAY he was in the paper.
I'm glad my guy wasn't picked in District 4.

Actually, most of the other candidates are mentioned (if only briefly) in the column...perhaps it was updated after your initial post.

So the two candidates they consider viable are the only two that also have experience in "big business" and thus stronger ties to corporations than the people they're supposed to represent? And then they throw in the third option who just happens to be a minority and mention his "legal troubles" in order to appear a little less biased? Or am I being cynical?

Mike Orren, says:
Why should anyone care who the local paper endorses, any more than any other business in town.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: We'll work to bring you as much information about the candidates as possible, but Pegasus News does not endorse candidates. Individual writers, staff and community may do so. But our company will not.

C'mon was anyone REALLY surprised that the Morning News endorsed the business candidate? I'd have been shocked if it was anyone else.
