Sometimes the symptoms are fairly obvious.

"Due to the recent events in our school district, the time is right to bring us together as a community in order to combat this perception that suicide is a reasonable option," Keller ISD Director of Guidance and Counseling Scott Kessel said. "Keller ISD is committed to making sure that all of our students, families and staff members are supported following these kinds events and are provided with resources to prevent future occurrences."

Patrick LeBlanc, an expert from the Jason Foundation, will be speaking at the event. This national foundation is affiliated with the Excel Center at Millwood Hospital and regularly provides training to school counselors and clinical specialists on the topic of suicide prevention and intervention.

LeBlanc will cover the signs and symptoms that parents can look for at home, as well as a wide variety of resources to utilize if parents have concerns for their own child. There will be a question and answer section at the end of the presentation.

"We strongly encourage all parents to attend," Kessel said. "Whether your child is in high school or in elementary school, it is never too early, nor too late, to hear this extremely important presentation. Prevention is key, and this event will increase our knowledge, strategies and tools to prevent future suicides."

The event will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Keller ISD Education Center located at 350 Keller Parkway.
