Water in Dallas-Fort Worth area tastes funny
Annual algal bloom is affecting taste and odor of water from the North Texas Municipal Water District.
At dinner last week at Ajisen, the water tasted odd, like some cleaning fluid had dribbled in. Last weekend at Tecole, the taste of the water was so off that no amount of squeezed-in lemons or limes could improve it.
A-ha: According to the North Texas Municipal Water District, we're seeing a yearly occurrence of "algal bloom," responsible for the "earthy taste and/or odor" of the water supply. They say it doesn't change the the quality of the water supply, it just might make it less palatable.
The annual summer algal bloom occurs late July into August. Despite the taste and odor changes, it meets the Safe Drinking Water Standards, and presents no health hazards.
