Time Warner offering $10,000 reward for info on copper theft

The cable company had a big theft somewhere between June and July that caused 61,000 local customers to lose phone, Internet, and television.

— According to Beta News, Time Warner is offering a reward of $10,000 for any info leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in a suspected copper theft in Texas.

Time Warner said that someone vandalized its fiber-optic lines that ran through the I-35 underpass near the Trinity River between June 19 and July 24. It caused about 61,000 customers to lose phone, Internet, and television and cost thousands of dollars' worth of damage. If you have information, call 1-888-824-8041, or e-mail dallas.security@twcable.com.

Beta news says that they're having even worse copper problems in West Virginia than we're having here, but West Virginia is doing something about it by considering regulation on salvage yards and recyclers. If the proposed legislation in West Virginia passes, more information will be required from scrap sellers, and police will be able to confiscate metal if they believe it had been stolen. Way to go, West Virginia. If the thieves don't have anywhere to sell it to, then they won't keep stealing it.
