UNT football kicks off fall practice on Monday
The North Texas football team opened fall practice Monday afternoon in preparation for its season opener against Oklahoma, Sept. 1. The Mean Green returns 10 starters on defense and five on the offensive side.
PRACTICE NOTES:
· Junior defensive back Latif Nurudeen recorded an interception working against Brandon Jackson in one-on-one drills
· Senior Aaron Weathers intercepted a pass thrown by true freshman quarterback Giovanni Vizza. Brock Stickler was the intended receiver on the play.
· Sophomore corner Antoine Bush jumped up and snagged a ball intended for Casey Fitzgerald to record his second interception of the day.
· Quarterback Daniel Meager hooked up with two different receivers to throw back-to-back touchdowns in the one-on-one drills. Stickler pulled down one touchdown with Fitzgerald recording the other.
· Looking for playing time at the receiver position, true freshman B.J. Lewis laid out and caught a Meager pass one-handed for a 35-yard touchdown reception.
· In a battle against the first-team offense and first-team defense, Maurice Holman, an honorable mention all-conference selection for the last two seasons, intercepted a Vizza pass intended for Jackson.
· Running the two-minute drill, Vizza engineered a four-play drive that was capped off by a six-yard touchdown pass to Fitzgerald. Two long pass receptions by Jackson helped set up the touchdown.
