Carrollton welcomes DART with groundbreaking ceremony

This community event event and press conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Pioneer Park (Main & Carroll) with the debut of Carrollton's three transit center logos, remarks from city and DART officials and the groundbreaking ceremony for DART's Green Line passenger light rail service.

— Carrollton, Texas - Excitement continues to build as Carrollton welcomes DART’s Green Line expansion into the city with a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday morning, Sept. 8.

This community event and press conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Pioneer Park (Main & Carroll) with the debut of Carrollton’s three transit center logos, remarks from city and DART officials and the groundbreaking ceremony for DART’s Green Line passenger light rail service.

At 9:30 a.m. the event continues at the Gazebo on the Downtown Historic Square with the unveiling of the transit and tourism mural on the area’s landmark silos.

The city of Carrollton and DART will have displays and informative brochures about the new rail transit line and Carrollton’s three new stations will be on the Square for public viewing.

The groundbreaking ceremony and mural unveiling will be held rain or shine. For event information, visit www.cityofcarrollton.com/TOD or call city Marketing Services at 972-466-3593.

Carrollton’s Three Rail Stations Bring Development Opportunities

The 2007-2010 construction of DART’s new Green Line includes three stations in Carrollton. They will be located along IH 35E at Belt Line Road, Trinity Mills (President George Bush Turnpike), and at Frankford Road, the end of the Green Line rail service. Rail passengers can anticipate using the new transit service by late 2010.

“Citizens have embraced the concept of redevelopment around the three stations which will create a more urban lifestyle oriented towards the pedestrian with a mixture of high density residential, office and retail places," commented Peter Braster, Transit-Oriented Development Manager.

Since 2000, the city has been in an aggressive planning process to capitalize on significant financial benefits of the rail stations through transit-oriented development (TOD) land planning, urban design, transportation engineering and economic development. These plans are available at www.cityofcarrollton.com/TOD.

Because the Downtown Carrollton Station at Belt Line Road is located at the hub of three rail lines, this station can become a primary destination and transfer point within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Carrollton Mayor Becky Miller said, “Carrollton has the potential to become a major transit hub, joining downtown Dallas, downtown Fort Worth, and DFW Airport in terms of importance to the region’s transportation network. We’re committed to leveraging public and private resources to maximize the development opportunities in this transit district.”

City officials encourage citizens to attend the groundbreaking event on Sept. 8 to witness this community milestone, and to learn more about the plans and opportunities.
