Sale of Luna Tortilla Factory makes Dallas’ Little Mexico less Mexican

— The recent sale of the Luna Tortilla Factory building is hammering home the fact that Dallas' Little Mexico area is disappearing. And the DMN says that the owners of the only two remaining Little Mexico businesses -- El Fenix and the adjacent Hernandez grocery -- might close for the right price. As they say in the DMN (via Hispanic Business):

The little that remains is squeezed between the explosive growth of Uptown and Victory Place, growth that has greatly increased land values. Any lucrative offer could far exceed what a modest family business could earn in a year.

Founded in 1924, the Luna Tortilla Factory was sold to Cretia Drydale, who owns Cretia's Flour & Flowers as well as Cretia's on McKinney, which must be doing better than it ever seems it is to accommodate such a purchase. The Luna family is looking at locations in the Oak Lawn area.
