Duncanville ISD adopts new school-wide cell phone policy

The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees has adopted a new Electronic Communication Devices policy that will go into effect the first day of school on August 27.

Kids with cell phones try to too hard to be cool. Others fail miserably.

Kids with cell phones try to too hard to be cool. Others fail miserably.

Under the new policy, cell phone, radios, CD players and other devices cannot be brought to school, whatsoever, by elementary and intermediate students (PK-6).

Meanwhile, grades 7-12 will be allowed to bring their electronic devices, but they should not be visible and are to remain off during the instructional school day.

When any student in any grade violates this policy for the first time, the device will be confiscated and only returned to the student's parent after a parent conference and payment of a $15 administrative fee. A second violation will result in the confiscation of the device for the remainder of the school year.

Students are allowed to use campus phones (located in offices and teacher classrooms) with prior approval at the discretion of a school administrator. A school administrator may also, at their discretion, grant permission for a student to use the electronic device for the purpose of instruction or other school-related function.

Parents and students should read the new policy in its entirety, which is available here
