— Button collectors, button dealers, and even casual button fans are having a National button Society Convention, Friday and Saturday, August 10-11, at the Hotel InterContinental. Waltrina Stovall, former DMN dining critic and a veteran antiques dealer and collector, does a cool story noting that the convention will attract folks from the U.S., Canada, and Europe; that only buttons made before 1918 are antiques; that buttons can be made from glass, pearl, Bakelite, metal, or ivory; and that buttons are the third or fourth most popular collectible, ranking with dolls after stamps and coins.

Saturday Tastings in the Wine and Beer Department Little Joey just LOVES the Saturday wine tastings at Central Market - he particularly likes the blind tastings, when he can sneak a snort while Mommie's not looking. (Great nose!) More info
