— The Greater Dallas Chamber announced that Wanda Brice, CEO of The Women's Museum: An Institute for the Future, is the recipient of the 2007 ATHENA Award.

The ATHENA Award is a national program that recognizes the accomplishments of a Dallas businesswoman. Sponsored by Chase and the Greater Dallas Chamber, the award will be presented to Ms. Brice at the 2007 Women's Business Conference luncheon on September 27, at the Adam's Mark Hotel. The theme for this year's conference is "Change Your World: Lead, Mentor, Inspire" and will feature keynote speaker Elizabeth Vargas.

The ATHENA Award is open to individuals who strive toward the highest levels of professional accomplishment, excel in their chosen field, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and forge new paths encouraging others to follow. Administered today through the non-profit ATHENA Foundation, more than 5,000 awards have been presented in over 500 communities throughout the world. By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Award Program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives.

Brice is a founding board member of the International Women's Forum in Dallas, the National Association of Women Business Owners in DFW, the North Texas Women's Business Council (NTWBC), and the Women's Center of the Small Business Association (SBA.)

After lobbying extensively in Austin and Washington on behalf of women business owners, Brice was a driving force behind the DFW Women's Covenant. Founded in 1994, the Covenant's goal is to "facilitate broad based, lasting change in the business community that will result in the expansion of economic opportunities for women." Additionally, she was instrumental in founding Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) in 1997. WBENC is the nation's leading advocate of women-owned businesses as suppliers to America's corporations. It is also the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the United States.

She's founded and owned two businesses, Legal Documentation Systems and Computer Directions, Inc. A successful entrepreneur who knows the challenges for women in the workforce, in 2005 she turned Computer Directions over to her children and accepted the position of CEO for The Women's Museum, the only comprehensive women's history museum in the United States.

Past recipients of the ATHENA Award are Wendy Lopez, LOPEZGARCIA GROUP; Becky Sykes, Dallas Women's Foundation; Camille Keith, Southwest Airlines; Retta Miller, Jackson Walker LLP; Valerie Freeman, Imprimis Group; Liz Minyard, Minyard Food Stores (formerly); Grace McDermott, US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce; Brenda Jackson, TXU Electric Delivery; Gale Duff-Bloom, JCPenney Company (formerly); Norma Lea Beasley, SAFECO Texas; Jinger Heath, BeautiControl Cosmetics (formerly); and Tegwin Pulley, Texas Instruments.

Saturday Tastings in the Wine and Beer Department Little Joey just LOVES the Saturday wine tastings at Central Market - he particularly likes the blind tastings, when he can sneak a snort while Mommie's not looking. (Great nose!) More info
