Neighborhood hoping to bring more than an apple for S.S. Conner Elementary teachers

— Dennis and Candis Grover, who live on Sweetwater near S.S. Conner Elementary school want to welcome teachers back to school in a big way.

Candis sent me a message saying: "In an effort to show support for the school from the surrounding neighborhoods, I am trying to organize a breakfast for the faculty and staff on August 20th, the first day teachers report for in-service. We are in the process of passing around flyers in our immediate neighborhood of St. Francis-Lakeland, Ferguson Rd-Hunnicut. While neither of us teach at Conner and do not yet have children, we have both taught at low income schools and know what it is like to work at schools where there is little community or parent involvement. This may be a huge flop and we may end up footing the bill but if there is anything you and the Pegasus gang could do to help get the word out, we would greatly appreciate it."

Happy to help. You can contact Dennis and Candis at 214-321-2970 or candisgrover (AT) hotmail (DOT) com. Volunteers are needed to bake food, contribute paper goods, and/or donate money for Starbucks coffee. (Hey-- Let's do White Rock Coffee instead, no?)

The Beach Boys with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Beach Boy trivia: Though surfing was a prominent theme in many of the Beach Boys' early songs, Dennis Wilson was the only original member who surfed. "Kokomo" was the Beach Boys' first hit in 20 years and ended up being their biggest selling single. Paul McCartney once said that "God Only Knows" was the most beautiful pop song ever written.
