He's been mayor for 10 years.
MESQUITE Mesquite mayor Mike Anderson is resigning to run for the Texas House of Representatives. He's been mayor for 10 years, the second-longest-serving mayor after Bedford Galloway. He's going to run against state Rep. Thomas Latham in the Republican primary in March for the 101st District seat.

This is probably going to be a good thing for mesquite. Mike's done a great job and the city has grown by leaps and bounds. However, they need fresh talent that recognizes that the Mesquite of today is a lot bigger than it used to be.
