Dallas inmate who was cleared by DNA files lawsuit against Dallas police department
DALLAS Billy James Smith, 55, who was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Dallas Police Department. Smith is one of 13 inmates who was exonerated by DNA evidence; he was released in July 2006 after being sentenced to life in prison in 1987. Smith's attorneys predict that there will be more lawsuits to come.
