If you caught Hendrick's recent performance at the Radiohead tribute night, and were paying attention, you may have noticed that the former keyboardist/guitarist for the group was taking over behind the drum kit. Here's the explanation via e-mail from bassist Gregory Pierce:
Our drummer of over two years, Steve, decided to go to college in KS, almost 3 months ago. He really did help us get the "sound" of Hendrick going.
Well, rather than holding auditions, and then teaching someone a bunch of our songs, plus new ones, and bringing them into the studio 4 weeks later, we promoted from within. Our keyboardist/guitarist, Jay Briggs is an amazing drummer. And he's been playing these songs for some time, now. Plus, he has written most of the songs we're currently recording (I'm in the studio right now, writing this). It's working out so well. It'll change our sound a bit, but everyone's going to love what they hear.
And to replace Jay's empty keyboard bench/guitar strap, we've called on a long time friend of all of ours, Matthew Bridgeman. Matthew is an amazingly accomplished acoustic guitarist. But lucky for us, he's a keyboardist, as well. He's already adding to the sound, and causing us to write parts we might not have written before.
Jay has already recorded all the drums for our new album, and everyone's going to flip when they hear it.
You can check out the new Hendrick lineup doing their thing on Saturday, August 18 at Firewater Bar and Grill. They'll be sharing the stage with some band called White Suit Empire... no, Black Tie Dynasty, that's the one.
