DirecTV introduces cutting-edge “BPL” Internet access in Dallas-Fort Worth

BPL should not be confused with VPL.

— DirecTV has partnered with Internet broadband provider Current Group to offer "BPL" -- broadband over power lines -- but for now in the Dallas/Fort Worth area only. Ha ha!

BPL lets you plug a modem into any electrical outlet in the house and voila -- high-speed Internet access.

DirecTV signed a wholesale distribution agreement with Current that'll allow DirecTV to sell Current's broadband services as well as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services. As mentioned previously, the service is available in Dallas/Fort Worth only (ha ha!), but DirecTV will add other cities as Current expands its network.
