UPDATE: Homeless Fort Worth man beaten to death with rock

On Monday, August 27, 2007 at approximately 5:45 p.m. Fort Worth Police responded to an Aggravated Assault in the 600 block of Congress. The actual location of the call was underneath the Henderson Street bridge on the Trinity River Trail located just west of the Fort Worth Police and Fire Academy, 1000 Calvert Street. Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses who pointed out the suspect and said that he had just beaten another male with a rock. Officers quickly took the 56-year-old white male into custody. The victim, a 36-year-old black male, was found lying unconscious on the ground underneath the Henderson Street bridge about fifteen (15) feet from the Trinity Trail. According to initial reports the victim appeared to have brain matter coming from a large laceration on his head. Ambulance personnel transported the victim to Harris Methodist Hospital downtown where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect was transported to police headquarters for questioning by Homicide Detectives and is expected to be arrested and charged with Murder. Both the suspect and the victim are reportedly homeless. It is unknown what prompted the suspect to strike the victim in the head with a rock. The murder weapon was not recovered due to the suspect throwing it into the Trinity River prior to the arrival of police.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, August 27, 2007 at approximately 1:45 a.m. Fort Worth Police arrested and booked Jackie Casey, a 56-year-old homeless man, into the Fort Worth Police jail facility on the charge of Murder. The arrest being the result of an Aggravated Assault investigation that police responded to in the 600 block of Congress. The actual location of the call was underneath the Henderson Street bridge on the Trinity River Trail located just west of the Fort Worth Police and Fire Academy, 1000 Calvert Street. Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses who pointed Casey and said that he had just beaten another male with a rock. Officers quickly took the 56-year-old Casey into custody. The victim, a 36-year-old black male, was found lying unconscious on the ground underneath the Henderson Street bridge about fifteen (15) feet from the Trinity Trail. According to initial reports the victim appeared to have brain matter coming from a large laceration on his head. Ambulance personnel transported the victim to Harris Methodist Hospital downtown where he was later pronounced dead.
The Casey was transported to police headquarters for questioning by Homicide Detectives and as a result arrested and charged him with Murder. Both Casey and the victim are reportedly homeless. It is unknown what prompted the deadly encounter. The murder weapon was not recovered due to it being thrown it into the Trinity River prior to the arrival of police.
