Student-run School Zone Dallas begins 6th season

DALLAS The 2007-08 school year welcomes a new cast for the student-hosted television show, School Zone Dallas. In its sixth season, School Zone Dallas focuses on the good news and outstanding people that are part of the Dallas Independent School District.
The award-winning TV show will air three times this school year on WFAA-Channel 8 at 6:30 p.m., courtesy of John Eagle Dealerships. The first edition will air Wednesday, September 5. Additional programs will air on January 23 and April 16. The show will air in place of Entertainment Tonight.
Hosted from Robert E. Lee Elementary, School Zone Dallas will feature stories about a 7-year-old chess whiz from Blanton Elementary; students from Martin Luther King, Jr. Learning Center who brought home the gold for ballroom dance; and a group of girls from Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School and the Lincoln Humanities/Communications Magnet who learned a lesson in physics and got to tour Italy all at the same time.
Other stories include Shattered Dreams, a program at Bryan Adams High School that raises student awareness about the deadly consequences of drinking and driving; a tribute to the U. S. National Parks at Stonewall Jackson Elementary; and the award-winning marching band from Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School and Classical Academy.
This year’s all senior cast includes co-hosts Marshaye Meyers, School of Business and Management; and Alvaro Romalho, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Reporters for the program are Isaac Villafana, Skyline High School; Karen Lopez, Magnet Center for Public Service: Government, Law and Law Enforcement; Jessica Lopez and Emalie Price, Woodrow Wilson High School; Kirby Kimber, North Dallas High School; Fredricka Brown, South Oak Cliff High School; Gracie Saunders, School for the Talented and Gifted; and Trenton Patterson, Humanities/Communications Magnet at Lincoln High School.
