Atheist couple request God be taken out of Texas’ pledge
Shannon and David Wallace Croft requested of a Dallas judge that the language "one state under god" be immediately taken out of the Texas pledge of allegiance. Apparently the Crofts believe the mention of God in the Texas pledge is damaging their children, who attend school in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.

I still haven't had anyone explain to me why "God" wasn't in the pledge in the first place. Were the Texans of the 19th century not godly enough to think it necessary? I wonder what the Christians of 2007 think of their ancestors? Did they all go to hell? Or were they saved by Speaker Craddick?

I'm confused. When and why did the schools start doing a Texas pledge? If I recall when I was in school, we did the pledge from the constitution. I know Texas is big enough and the Gov. seems to think we are our own country.. Am I missing something? Shouldn't the children be taught to pledge the US flag with 50 stars and not just one?

TC: The Texas pledge was added in 2003, and it is recited throughout schools after the standard early-morning U.S. Pledge of Allegiance.
