ARLINGTON Update: Early voting is now underway.
The Arlington City Council voted to send a proposal for an eighth of a cent sales tax increase to voters on November 6. The tax would help improve crime control and prevention by adding additional police and fire positions, as well as pay for new equipment.
Supporters include the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, while opponents include the Star-Telegram, which recommended against it, and Concerned Taxpayers, which "don't like anybody messing with our dogs, our guns, our hunting rights or trying to take property from us," and would like Cowboys Stadium to fund public safety.
Take a bite out of crime...by going shopping.
As McGruff needs a new trench coat, he's looking forward to the next Gap sale so he can kill two birds with one stone.

I met a guy from Arlington yesterday. He seemed to think that he was somehow getting so much value from living close to that stadium that it would be worth the money. Confused me.

Yeah, and our water's going up too! I have issues with some of the line items going in... based on an "all or nothing" perspective, I'm currently leaning towards voting "against", when balanced with the increase in my costs...
Then again, when the stadium opens, I'm sure I'd like all that extra "soft" infrastructure in place to futher beef up my property values! Gotta get the h*ll out of Dodge in about 3 years!
Pasted from the Star-Tel link provided in the article above:
$5 million: 48 new police officers
$656,000: A designated "community court" with one new judge and additional staff to expedite the handling of code violations, including dangerous buildings
$551,000: Two new neighborhood coordinators and a supervisor to help residents improve their community
$400,000: Increased security at parks and other recreational facilities
$360,000: Three new code enforcement officers
$331,000: Three new firefighters trained to handle explosives, fire code inspections and arson investigations
$101,000: Additional graffiti removal
