Penguin promotes Texas Tuxedo for 80th anniversary celebration

— Tiger, a penguin from the Dallas Zoo, appeared with his handler Debbie Milligan, to add a Texas twist to its usual tuxedo to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas announce a significant partnership and title sponsor for The Big Black Tie & Boots Ball. Compass Bank will serve as the title sponsor for the charity's annual gala celebrating 80 years of youth mentoring in North Texas.

On October 20, 2007, title sponsor Compass Bank takes the agency’s marquee Big Black Tie & Boots Ball back to 1927, the year it was founded, to provide a glimpse of the decade that gave birth to BBBSNT and shaped the face of youth mentoring in North Texas. In a style reminiscent of the speakeasies of eight decades ago, the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center will play host to the more than 1,000 guests expected to attend in celebration of this anniversary event benefiting BBBSNT’s Amachi Texas program.

“This event arrives on the heels of the incredible momentum of an unprecedented year for our agency,” said BBBSNT CEO Charles Pierson. “While we greatly anticipate a night to celebrate our success of the past 80 years, we are also humbled by 70,000 North Texas children that have yet to benefit from our Amachi Texas program. It is only through the generosity of corporate partners like Compass Bank that we may begin to change the course of the lives of these children.“

2007 marks the first year of Compass Bank’s title sponsorship for the Big Black Tie & Boots Ball. While financially supporting this and other signature BBBSNT fundraising events, the heart of their commitment lies in the financial literacy program they will provide to volunteers, children and families served by the agency. They are offering multiple financial training opportunities throughout the upcoming year at various BBBSNT events and locations.

“We are honored to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas and thrilled to kick-off the relationship through the sponsorship of the 80th anniversary celebration,” said Randy Morrison, Executive Vice President, Compass Bank and BBBSNT Board Member. “But we are even more excited to announce our year long commitment to initiate fundamental financial education opportunities for BBBSNT’s clients and families to compliment the life-changing mentoring services already offered by the agency.”

This year marks the fourth annual Big Black Tie & Boots Ball for BBBSNT which benefits the Amachi Texas initiative, a program dedicated to mentoring young children of prisoners. The event will feature live entertainment from Asleep at the Wheel, a fabulous dinner at the Gaylord Texan, and “highly sought after” live and silent auction items for bidding in an effort to help raise much needed funds for Amachi children in North Texas.
