Fewer Lancaster students suspended for blowing off summer homework this year
After 254 Lancaster ISD students failed to turn in their summer reading assignments on the first day of the new school year, they were promptly suspended.
An upsetting number by itself—until you realize this number accounts only for 5% of the district's total enrollment, as well as the fact that roughly 516 students were sent home last August.
For years, Lancaster ISD has assigned reading projects to students from pre-K through 12th grade, with tasks ranging from reading for a measly 75 minutes per week to larger book projects.
