Farmers Branch to hold groundbreaking and dedication of Texas-sized U.S. Flag for Liberty Plaza Dec. 7

— According to Traci Leach, Management Analyst for the City of Farmers Branch, Farmers Branch will celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony and dedication of a 30 by 60-foot American Flag, which can be seen from a 150-foot pole for miles, at Liberty Plaza Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.

What is Liberty Plaza and where is it located?

Leach explains that Liberty Plaza is about a two-acre tract of land near where the new DART light rail station will be located and passengers on the train will have a clear view of it.

“The idea of Liberty Plaza came about at one of the council meetings when Councilman Tim O’Hare suggested that the City do something to honor the armed services,” Leach said.

She said there will be a walking path which will be lighted at night, a nice quiet water feature, artwork, meditation areas, trees, landscaping and more.

“The staff put together three concept plans on different design elements. The chosen design will be on display at the ceremony.”

Mayor Bob Phelps said that Liberty Plaza will be another tribute to the military services.

“It’s different from what any other cities are doing,” he said.
