Just a word of advice: it might be a bad idea to pick up and take home any anonymous metal cylinders you happen to find lying on the side of the road, particularly ones that may have symbols like this affixed to them.

That's apparently just what someone did on Monday (Dec. 3) when a cylinder full of depleted uranium fell off a truck near the Texas Motor Speedway. Police were quickly alerted to the unfortunate mis-location of industrial x-ray uranium bits, whose danger fire officials described as "not overly significant," and the cylinder was located at a residence in the 1200 block of Elaine Place (near Meacham Airport) in the early morning hours of Dec. 4.

Fortunately the cylinder was located quickly; if Jack Bauer had been called in to supervise, things might have turned out a bit differently.

Question: how does a cylinder of depleted uranium fall off a truck? Did the driver leave it on the hood by accident, along with his diet Pepsi?

Laurie Anderson Laurie Anderson is indescribably delicious. She's hitting McFarlin tonight with her new show, Homeland, and you can bet it will contain intellectual stimulation and pure unadulterated weirdness in equal measure. An album will follow the Homeland tour in 2009. More info
